Michael W. McKay
Michael W. “Mike” McKay was elected to the Office of Allegany County Commissioner in 2010, for a four year term where he served as the President of the Board of County Commissioners. This was the first time McKay had served in public office. McKay was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014. He has been a member since 2015.
Delegate McKay is the President and CEO of Allegany Management Services, Inc. This progressive and professional cleaning and restoration firm, headquartered in Allegany County, has two locations in Maryland. An independent business owner, Delegate McKay previously owned Effective Solutions, a telemarketing and employee staffing company. His first business operation was the Kentland Exxon Service Center in Landover, Maryland. Delegate McKay has been recognized by the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and was presented with the prestigious 2010 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.
Delegate McKay pursued higher education and studied business administration at the University of Maryland. He is a graduate of the Maryland Association of Counties’ Academy for Excellence in Local Government. He has also a graduate of Leadership Allegany!
During this term of office as commissioner, McKay and his fellow County Commissioners served on the Allegany County Board of Health and are members of the Cumberland Allegany County Industrial Foundation, Inc. (CACIF).
Delegate McKay was previously on the Allegany County on the Allegany County Board of Education and with the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) and served on the MACo Legislative Committee (alternate). Delegate McKay is also representing Allegany County on the newly formed Maryland Rural Counties Coalition where serves as the Administrator. He is involved with the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc. (TCC). Delegate McKay was also a member of the Allegany County Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect and served on the Allegany County Mental Health Advisory Board and the Allegany County Social Services Board of Directors.
Delegate McKay, since 2015 has been a member of the Appropriations Committee. He has also been a member of subcommittees Public Safety and Administration and Oversight Committee on Pensions of the Appropriations Committee and Joint Committee on Ending Homelessness. Delegate McKay represents Western Maryland in the Rural Maryland Council.
Delegate McKay, a native of Rockville, Maryland, moved to Allegany County in 1996 and became actively involved in the community. He has served on the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and held leadership positions including President as well as Chairman of the Board. His professional board experience includes the Certified Restoration Drycleaning Network of South Pittsburgh and the Alleghenies and being the Past Chair and President of the Mid Atlantic Cleaners Association.
Delegate McKay and his wife, Kimberly, reside in Cumberland with their eight children, Courtney, Mason, Madison, Matthew, Joshua, Julian, Reagan, and Lincoln. Delegate McKay and his family are actively involved in the greater faith-based community in the Tri-State Area and members of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland.
